Does anyone know how to simulate a middle mouse button via the keyboard?

Cheers

Well what does your middle mouse button do?

I know that under Linux you used to be able to set if you clicked both mousebuttons at the same time to simulate a third middle button.

But if you have a keyboard that has programmable buttons you should be able to program one of them to do what you want pretty easy.

i dont have one!

But a program I run has openGL graphics - where the middle button would be used to control the graphics.

Unfortunately there is no keyboard equivalent.

Buy a new mouse.

I mean you can get a really good mouse with 5 or 6 buttons and a wheel for pretty cheap.

there is one on order and it should be here this week, but I'd like to do stuff today!

What exactly are you going to use the middle button for? If you say you need we might be able to get you a solution.

I have a program that has openGL graphics, and the middle mouse button zooms in and out of the view - that is what I am trying to do.

So if I could make the application think it is getting a middle mouse click (the mouse motion while middle button is pressed makes it zoom in/out of the view) then I could move the mouse and it would zoom.

I cant seem to find a software to do it in windows...very common for linux.

Is it not possible to bind say that alt key or any key on the keyboard in this software to act as the middle mouse button?

thanks for all the replies and looking for a solution.

No the software is in the development stage and the keyboard functionality hasn't been added yet - its on the TODO list.

I guess I will have to wait until my new mouse arrives, or I'll go and buy one myself!

Is there no other pc that has a 3 button mouse or one with mouse wheel that you can pinch the mouse from and then give them your old 2 button one? :)

The price for a new mouse with several buttons isn't that great these days so its probably the easiest solution.

our company is very small (6 people, 7 pc's - 2 of which have old 2 button mouse!)

If it doesn't turn up in the morning, think I'll dissapear off to get one in my morning break!
