Task Manager : Service Error : MID Configuration Applicator: Applying VirusScan settings failed. (0005) The Source is McLogEvent and the Event ID is 1006.

anyone seen this?? any ideas or fixes??

I've all the patches applied, and other than a pesky task manager error event, everything seems to be working just fine.

I've seen this error along with "MID Configuration Applicator: Password Authentication Failed" in my Event Viewer.

What I did was modify my VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i with the Installation Designer and saved the package. If I uninstall VirusScan Enterprise 7.1 AND reboot the PC (I never get prompted but I rebooted anyways) before installing 8.0i, I don't get the errors.

If I uninstall 7.1 and don't reboot and proceed with installing 8.0i, I get the error.

If I leave the 7.1 alone and execute the 8.0i to automatically remove/upgrade the software. At the end of the upgrade, a reboot is performed and the same errors appear again.

Note, there errors occur approximately the same time my ePO Agent communicates with the ePO Server. Yes, I have uninstalled and the ePO Agent and reinstalled it with no success. I can only guess it may have something to do with repackaging the VirusScan product using Installation Designer?

Hopefully someone else may have some more insight.

Yeah, I run the setup.exe with a silent switch for installations, I only see that error after a reboot and so far only on a limited number of machines...

I opened a ticket with NAI... we'll see how that goes.

I'll keep ya posted.

I got a fix from NAI...

Go to C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\MID, see if you have a vsecfg.cab file. Re-name or delete the file.

it works...

Thanks Xavier2! Deleting the file corrected the problem.

(Now I just have to rebuild my VSE 8.0 package with Installation Designer and somehow incorporate an automated deletion of that file after a reboot...maybe I'll do it using a RunOnce registry key...)

Thanks!

Glad I could help. NAI rocks!!! today...hehe
