I have been beating my head against the wall for months over an issue involving hung lines on a T-1 with E&M Wink-Start lines... What keeps happening is roughly every few weeks the customer gets a "no free lines" message. I have replaced the T-1 card, I have checked my settings and I have run line test after line test. This morning I started going through all of the books and a few things occurred to me that "could" be issues...

1) The COMBO card; could a improperly seated card or incompatible card version cause this issue?

2) Tests; this morning I went through my network stats, under "bipolar violation" I see a number "608240", could this be the source of the issue.

3) Does anyone have a recommended (cookie cutter) T-1/E&M/Wink configuration that works consistently with Integra Telecom T-1 service?

4) Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks in advance for your help...

My suggestion is tell them like it is and copy jsaad's post

ITAS SRN 026 NA
August, 2004

Norstar MICS 6.1 MR wi 6.10 and CICS 6.1 MR wi 6.10 were released to the installed base in August
2004 as a maintenance release. SRN 02x replaces SRN 024 (MICS/CICS 6.1 MR wi6.05). This new release incorporates several fixes to the core software. A replacement process is in place and described below.

Issues resolved in MICS 6.1 MR wi 6.10

A frozen set display and subsequent failure of parking calls (F74) and retrieving parked calls can occur when picking up the handset during dialling of a number starting with the Park Prefix.

Thank you very much Curly, your help and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

This has been going on so long that its had me doubting myself after 20 years of working on Norstar systems. This is the very first time I have had this much trouble with any system.

Take care.

Just so you know the MICS 6.1 MR wi 6.10 that the bulletin is referring to is 30CQG10. Which is the last release of 6.1, so the E06 and the G05 that you have now had all the issues.

Also check that you have a release 2 or higher memory card that the sd card slides into. Rel 1 has known memory leaks.
By the way, we have had several clients running all 3 versions of 6.1 software with both price and t1 e&m whom had similar issues. We did an upgrade to 7.1 and problem resolved.
Upgrade to 7.1 to resolve your issues. Don't even mess around with 6.1.

Very important next question, can I upgrade from 6.1 to 7.1 without losing the memory?

...non XC to non XC software....

My brains are fried on this problem and I really need your help....

You should not lose any programming, but I would do a back up just in case before the upgraade.

25 sets

This customer is very concerned about any down time. She had to send her whole crew home with pay at 10 AM yesterday because her server crashed while all of this was going on. You can probably imagine just how much she's doubting and second guessing my abilities at this point.

So long as I don't need an upgrade kit to swap the software I know the RAM package on this system is good and it should go smoothly. I accidentally knocked out the system power last night and everything came back up after reboot so my confidence in the system stability is high.

The hard part will be trying to convince her that it will go smoothly..

The NVRAM should be release 2 per Rodney, I forget if you swap it before upgrade, during or after.

Power down system, remove amp cables, swap software, install amp cables, power up, wait!!!.

To backup you need NRU software on Win XP only, and a RAD.

When you upgrade from Release 6.1 to 7.x you should not lose any programming. As always a system backup is recommended.

The upgrade procedure time will vary depending upon the size of the system.
The system will be out of service during the upgrade procedure and phones are non-operational until after the upgrade is completed.

As a caveat, be sure that you have a known good system backup and suggests that you have the system Id and keycode information in the event the system cold starts.
Its always best to have all of the tools available and with you. Just in case!

Thanks Curly and Rodney.

I do have NRU 11 installed on my laptop, it's Vista but it works like a champ on direct connect backup and restore procedures. There are no system keys installed and I do have the system ID so that should go very smoothly..

Thanks again for all of your helps guys. :)

It takes less than an hour to go from 6.1na to 7.1na. You power down the switch, remove all amp connections, pull the old software card out, put the new in, put your amps back on, and power up.

I mentioned this also, the idea is to prevent any possible static or charge from cabling during upgrade process.
If i recall it is part of the upgrade procedure in the manual.
It is rare that it will happen but should it happen then 2 minutes would have saved you a lot of grief.
