Microsoft Word tool bars and Maim menu disappeared

The main menu and all the tool bars have disappeared from word. Usually when the tool bars are not there I would go into view and toolbars, but I cannot see the main menu. I am not able to get main menu items by using the alt key either eg Alt F or Alt E. All I am seeing is the document title eg. document one. I am hoping I don't have to reinstall wor.

Have you tried renaming your normal.dot file? Don't know if that will help, but it might.

This is controlled by a registry key.

HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\office\9.0\Word\Data and look at the Toolbar value (perhaps compare it to another machine)

If you have another machine you can export this key from one machine to yoiur machine. joegz

I am operating a Winnt network. When I log on as administrator or as another user another user the main menu and the toolbars are still there. So I know it can't be the machine. It has to be something the user did or clicked on while in that user's profile. The first thing I saw when I went to the machine was a Network neibourhood toolbar with all the computers and the servers on the network. Can't imagine what the user clicked on to get that. I closed that. Tried to ask the user what she clicked on but she does not remember.

I am puzzled, never saw this problem before. Is it possible that the key could be currupted under a particular profile. That seems strange.

The first step for this, because it is the fix about 50% of the time is to rename normal.dot.
