I downloaded Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1 today and i want to make a program that will do some basic functions (like: shutdown or open internet explorer) on voice command.. I'm a complete newbie at this and i cant do the coffeeshop tutorials cause when i say "go to the counter" it doesn't respond i hope someone can help me or tell me a page where i can hook up with the basics of Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1..

Thanks in advance,

Greetings

Hey fella,
Is the SDK a freeware, Can I know where to download it from. And what's the size of the file.
Thanks.

The Microsoft Speech 5.1 SDK is free, but a rather large program. It can be downloaded from
The file is 68 megs and the language packs are 81.5 megs. There is a tutorial in the help file (2.28 megs) found on the same site.

In regards to programing with SR and TTS you may want to download and install the Speech Control Panel. Then, in the control panel, speech, change the settings to favor accuracy over responce time. Check your speaker settings to make sure that your mic. is not on mute. Run your program in debug F8 mode. Run the program line by line. Are any lines skipped? Do any error occur? If your computer is picking up the voice command is it correctly calling your code to shut down the computer, or is it correct? Make sure you've added the Voice Command Control to your project and that it has been enabled. If these don't work let me know.
