The latest security update from Microsoft for Windows 98 and IE 6.0 Sp1 (814078) removes Visual Basic Scripting on both of my Win98 machines. When I access the internet I get the Install On Demand box telling me to install Visual Basic Scripting. After I do this and go back to Windows Update, that tells me I haven't installed the security update--which I have--but it was removed by reinstalling Visual Basic Scripting. It's just one big loop. Anyone else have this problem?? Any ideas? Jim

Yes, I noted the exact same behavior... ended up somehow losing my .inf file type definition (I think from telling the dialog box you mentioned, not to show me that box again), then ultimately had to restore a prior registry backup to fix things. I've visited a few websites since then and the troublesome scripting box no longer appears. I'd be interested in seeing who has had similar experience.

Thanks for the reply. There is definitely a problem with the update. The problem with Microsoft is that there is no way to contact them to tell them they have a problem. Jim

I had this problem also -
It definately seemed related to my updating to IE6SP1

I finally got so sick of the popups that I went into
Tools-->Internet Options-->Advanced
and unchecked the Install On Demand options.

At least now those popup messages don't come up all the time

I don't have any problem with SP1. It's with the latest security patch. Jim

Microsoft has removed that Critical Update from the Windows Update Page, so they discovered there was a problem evidently. I wish they would test this stuff before they release it. Jim
