After installing this patch on a Dell PowerEdge 2650, we lost the video driver and had several other strange device issues in device manager. After rolling back the patch all is fine. Has anyone else seen an issue with this? We had also patched 2 other servers and have not yet seen any problem with them. I have found a few scattered postings in other places about this Direct X patch affecting video, but no real answers on the root cause. Just hoping someone may have some insight. Thanks!

Make sure you have the most recent video ard driver.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Dell doesn't have a Rage driver for the card, it uses the native Windows driver in 2003. Oddly enough, we tried copying the driver from the Windows 2003 CD and after a reboot it worked, but after rebooting again we were back to Device failed to start for the video driver. It also became like roullete after a reboot because we would have issues with the USB root and on the next boot it would be the floopy drive, etc... The video driver always failed to start.

Dell replaced all parts except memory and the processor before we got around to removing that particular patch. It had been installed a couple of weeks ago and did not need a reboot, so we didn't see the problem until we rebooted later on and so it took us a while to associate the problem with that update. All is good without that patch but I am still just trying to figure out what is going on. Thanks for the input.
