I received the following message when trying to open outlook. The ordinal 36 could not be located in dynamic link library MAPI32.dll. This occurred after I set up an email account thru netscape. Prior to that, Outlook worked fine. I ran the fixmapi from the command line and then started receiving the message Can not start Outlook. Any suggestions? And if it requires a reinstall, will the contacts that are already in Outlook be saved? Thanks for any help.

Not sure about the error message you are getting, but I can advised on re-installing Outlook.

Your Outlook data should still be safe. It is stored in a .pst file located on the c drive. Mine is in this location:
C:\WINDOWS\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

If you back up your .pst file and reinstall outlook, you can import this .pst file back in again using the Import/Export wizard.

Hope this is of help

Thanks cyberprof
I actually copied the mapi32.dll from a clean copy of outlook onto the bad machine. This cured the problem so I didn't have to reinstall outlook, but thanks for the pst backup info. Appreciate it
