SYMPTOMS
All new contacts are marked as Private after they are saved even though you do not select the option to mark them as Private.
CAUSE
This problem can occur when running the Small Business Contact Manager (SBCM) under the following conditions:
You answered No when asked if you wanted to designate this contact as a Small Business Manager contact.
-and-
You selected the "Don't prompt me about this again" option.
RESOLUTION
To recover from this condition, do one of the following on the computer on which the SBCM add-in is installed:
Turn off the Outlook Synchronization COM add-in.
Note: This option will disable the interface to the SBMC add-in.
-or-
Modify the registry to display the prompt again.
MORE INFORMATION
The SBCM gives a user the ability to import contacts from Outlook into its database so that users may track their Customers and Sales information in Microsoft Access. The SBCM will not import contacts marked as Private. Therefore, when a user clicks No when asked if they want to designate this contact as a Small Business Manager Contact, the contact will be marked Private.
NOTE: Marking the items as private can affect your ability to share items with other users. Items marked as private may not be visible to users who have shared access to your folders. This can affect both users who share folders using an Exchange Server and users who share folders using Net Folders.
To Turn Off the Outlook Synchronization COM Add-in
NOTE: This resolution will disable the interface to the SBCM add-in.
On the Tools menu, click Options.
On the Other tab, click Advanced Options, and then click COM Add-ins.
Click to clear the Outlook Synchronization check box.
Click OK to close all dialog boxes.
NOTE: You may have to uninstall the Small Business Customer Manager if making the above change does not resolve the behavior.
To Modify the Registry
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
Move to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\CMA
Double-click MakeCMAContacts and change its Value Data to 0 (zero) and then click OK.
On the Registry menu, click Exit.
The possible values for MakeCMAContacts are:
0 = Prompt User to choose if Contact will be an SBCM Contact.
1 = Don't prompt and do make the Contact an SBCM contact.
2 = Don't prompt and do not make the Contact an SBCM contact and mark the Contact Private.
