FYI: I had been struggling with an issue where my Vista Machine CPU was pegging out at 100 on boot up for about a year and all attempts for help went nowhere. well, after ruining a perfectly good hard drive because of hard reboots and losing alot of important files I figured out it was the Microsoft Network Monitor that I had installed when I first installed my Vista OS. I spent a lot of money on hardware as well and when I finally reloaded the OS It worked great. Then I installed that horrible program and it started all over again. I am hoping that if someone else is having the same problem and this helps them I'll get something out of all this bulls**t. So, if you are experiencing 100 CPU on boot up check for that software and try removing it to see if the problem goes away.

Apparently it's a pretty common issue.

Take a look here:

This forum posting (different forum) is a bit old, and they were having the issues back then:

Have you tried making sure you've got the latest drivers and the latest Windows Updates?

Also, if your network connection is onboard your motherboard, check the manufacturer's site for any BIOS udpates related to the network connections.

I went thru hell on this one and if I had not gone thru losing all the files I did because of this I wouldn't have had such a bad view of Vista.

Yeah, Vista's much better than people give it credit. Oftentimes, we blame the OS when it's a 3rd party app or a bad driver to blame for various issues.
