Microsoft netmeeting is restarting my computer without my consent

I started using netmeeting and was really excited because the quality is excellent.

But then after a while when someone quit the conversation.

I can't have another conversation with anyone else. The program doesnt respond for a few minutes (Its not taking up the processor either) and then when it starts no sound.

Clicking on exit will give me a blue screen (which I was surprised to see on win 2000) and says something about a lock and then resets itself.

Not good

Please Help!

I would remove and re-isnstall w/ the latest version.

The link you have given me is not for windows 2000 I think. Besides it has the same version number.


When I tried to install it the other day it wouldn't let me.

I don't think netmeeting is platform specific but maybe something has changed. This is the version I use on windows 2000 professional.

Sounds like you may have other problems if it won't let you install.

I think I've located the problem to conf.exe Its a process that netmeeting uses. When I've finished on netmeeting, conf.exe carrys on going. If I try to end this process.

It says PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES on a blue screen. And then it restarts the computer.

Please help.

1. Change the option in netmeeting to
Run Netmeeting in the backround when Windows starts to off.
2. reboot
3. remove netmeeting
4. install latest version from link
5. tray it again.

I can't seem to figure out how to uninstall netmeeting. Its not in the add remove programs. The program I downloaded says "This version of netmeeting cannot be installed on this version of windows".

NB I haven't removed netmeeting yet.

You could probably just remove the folder
c:\program files\netmeeting

then reinstall from link

or look for the istallation yourself at

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/netmeeting/

With all due respect, have you had this problam before, or is this how you've solved another problem?

I'm not sure about deleting folders without deleting possible relating registry keys and associated files especially in this OS which I am new to.

No..... I haven't had this problem before.
Just using my best judgement. I understand if you aren't prepared to delete files yet.

I'm out of ideas.

If this is a newer computer, you may want to contact the vender to see if they might help or your ISP may provide some support for that too.

If I try to delete the files I get this error

" Cannot delete NetMeeting: There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use."

To my knowledge I am not using any files from netmeeting. I also "1. Change the option in netmeeting to
Run Netmeeting in the backround when Windows starts to off."

have you tried putting your hardware acceleration down a little bit when you are in net meeting it reboots it. Try moving your hardware acc down about 3 levels from the top and try that out. worked for me.. Jason G. CSC

In Windows 2000, Netmeeting installs as part of the operating system. To remove and reinstall Netmeeting, do the following:

Copy the Msnetmtg.inf file from the %SystemRoot%\Inf folder to your desktop.
Click Start , click Run , type the following command, and then press ENTER:
%SystemRoot%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection NetMtg.Remove 132 msnetmtg.inf
Right-click the Msnetmtg.inf file that you copied to your desktop, and then click Install. You may need your Windows 2000 CD. Have it ready.

After the installation, restart your computer.
