Hijackthis reports Microsoft Maneger = Spoole32.exe

Is this supposed to be there?

Note the spelling of "Maneger". I just cleaned up my laptop and gotten rid of some other nasties, and I realized in the process that Spoole32 is always running in my task list, but never was before.

Thanks for taking a look.

Well, my home router is a DI 604. I guess they changed the cabinet they are putting them in. But, the real problem is, I can't hit the internet on the laptop or the home pc...

Winsockfix didn't help the home pc, and my laptop is strangely down again too. Both home and work.

If you connect directly to the modem, and it works, you likely need a new router. But ask the question in the D-Link Forum I linked above.

If you connect directly to the modem, and you get the same result....

. Obviously it could be a modem problem;

. Since both machines are affected, it seems unlikely a Winsock issue.

. I do not know the status of your line power, but a voltage spike could take out modem, router, and your nics. It certainly could take out several downstream components from your workstations. Are all the lights on all the devices normal? Everything appears OK?

Try the test I started with. What happens if you bypass the router and just connect to the modem?

Well, here's what makes me think it's a result of the spyware/malware removal...

Yesterday, here at the office, after running winsockfix, the laptop was able to connect to the internet (here at the office).

Then I removed these as you suggested:

[Yahoo! Pool 2]
CODEBASE = OSD = C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\Yahoo! Pool 2.osd

[Support.com ActionRunner Class]
InProcServer32 = C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\tgctlar.dll
CODEBASE =
[TDServer Control]
InProcServer32 = C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLO~1\tdserver.ocx
CODEBASE =
[IEPlayInterface Class]
InProcServer32 = C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\iaieplay.dll
CODEBASE =
[ContentAuditX Control]
InProcServer32 = C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLO~1\CONTEN~1.OCX
CODEBASE =
[Live Collaboration]
InProcServer32 = C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLO~1\RntX.dll
CODEBASE =
[{EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88}]
CODEBASE =
but didn't need to attempt an internet connection via the laptop again until late in the day. Couldn't hit the internet from work. Ran winsock fix again, no help. Blew it off and went home.

Now, the other day, just before I cleaned the home pc of malware/spyware, the internet connection was working. Post removal, dead internet connection.

hope that clears it up a little... and I really appreciate you being up so early!

Ok, here at the office, a simple ipconfig/release & renew got things going on the laptop.

I'll direct connect the modem to the pc or laptop when I get home... I just have serious doubts that the router would be the bad guy at such a coincidental time as when I killed the spyware. just my luck... sheesh!

That does help.

Use the backup/revert feature and put back the settings removed by Hijack.

One of these is clearly needed, likely by your ISP.

I think my original advice was not a flat out statement that they should be removed. By necessity I need to waffle on these downloaded browser helpers. Quote: "You might explore whether you wanted these installed:"

Put them back. After replacement you might consider running WinsockFix again if there is an issue.

Well, Actually, I did think of that last night. I restored them and rebooted and all that jazz... nada, dead, zippo. I should have mentioned that, but the coffee is just now getting my brain working.

Oh and, no, none of that stuff should be needed by my ISP, since no software was installed for the ISP. The Router keeps the PPPoE connection (to SBC).

Just got off the phone with the little lady at home, I had her connect to the router and see if it say's it's connected. Nope. Router showed disconnected. Had her click the connect button. After many minutes, it just says connecting. I'll bounce that sucker along with the modem when I get home. Perhaps I'll get lucky.

Still, I'll be testing the modem directly to be sure... then it's off to get a replacement router (if needed).

Oh, hey, BTW, I really didn't mistake your suggestion about investigating those suspect browser helpers as a call to rip em out, either... I knew what you were getting at. Sorry for implying otherwise this morning.

Tuna,

I apologize for the small "CYA" footnote above.

My first suspicion would be your ISP. "Just got off the phone with the little lady at home..." have her call the ISP and do a line check.

Well, she's gone to work now so I can't manage that one.

You don't have to apologize! I was just wanting to let you know you had not been misleading...

But I'll tell you, tek-tips is the ONLY message board where I've ever seen as much 'good will' between the users.
