Hi,
I am wondering if there is anyone out there that has first hand experience working with the SVC SIM?
We have been using the most basic functionality for years but I really want to utilize more of what this SIM has to offer and any additional insight above the basic PDF document would be helpful. Specifically the first thing I am hoping to do is support the SV_REDEMPTION_AUTH message. I expect that this would allow me to submit and Auth request similar to how you would auth a CC and then come back and do a tip adjustment. I can see the initial SV_REDEMPTION_AUTH request message coming from SVC, and I have full control over the server that will be responding/interacting with SVC. So I believe I would send an approval message similar to a plain inquire 10 REDEMPTION request, but I do not know which inquire or what message would need to be sent to pick the existing SV_REDEMPTION_AUTH and do the tip adjust and final redemption. Any insight anyone might have on this specific function would be very much appreciated.
thanks in advance,
--Paul

What SVC driver are you using? Most of it is pretty simple as long as your driver is fairly current

Thanks for the reply Wildbar.

It is very frustrating as the local VAR here is basically refusing to give me the updated version with the excuse "if it ain't broke we don't want to fix it".
I just upgraded to RES5.1 but my SVC version is 2.5.0.128 which was from the 4.x days (modified date is 6/21/2006) and the setup's log file also indicates it is for version 4.x.
I would be eternally grateful if anyone could somehow help me get ahold of a newer version

I have most of the newer 4.* SVC drivers The last one I put in was about 6 months ago I can see if there is a newer one. One big thing with the newer drivers is they are not run by the local config file. They are run through mymicros settings I am assuming you are using icare for your gift/loyalty?

Hi Wildbar,

sorry for the delay in my reply as I was on vacation. I do not use mymicros nor are we using icare for gift, so perhaps it is not the best idea to upgrade?

SVC still uses a local config if you're going with a third party gift card provider. Who are you with? Opticard? Valutec? Mercury Payment Systems? Givex? Paymentech?

I'd say the biggest issue you might run into upgrading the SVC software is this:

Say your host adapter software is from Givex, and you upgrade to the newest SVC. Well, now you might break the Givex host adapter's ability to talk to SVC, and have to spend time figure out where to get the newest host adapter, assuming they have one. During that time, your gift cards are down. So you need to look into that as well and make sure your host adapter is compatible.

Thanks for the clarification Moregelen! The answer is: none of the above. I have written a custom listener interface that translates SVC messages to a message type that is handed off to my gift card solution, which is part of a point of sale software package called RTP. The customization is a middleware piece that acts as a translator between the two systems. If the newer SVC contains a breaking change, I have full control of fixing the issue in the translation layer. So, since SVC would still use the config file, sounds like I could definitely use the latest version. Now I just need to figure out how I can obtain this latest release... If anyone would be willing to lend a hand I would be extremely grateful. [roll2]
Wondering how some of you power Micros users get access to these types of updates? Is there a direct customer portal login that Micros maintains? Is there a Micros maintained Knowledgebase that end user customers can get access to? Our reseller makes us go through them for EVERYTHING, and of course there is usually a fee associated.

Lol. You're quite welcome. Out of curiosity, this custom interface you wrote, who does it translate gift card data for? I nearly ended up doing that for one of our retail customers, but they had some stand beside terminals in storage they went with; cheaper option that paying the development costs ;)

i wrote it to solve our own internal need, to integrate the two point of sale solutions we use with each other.
