Micros 2700 os upgrade

I take it from your ? that you have a PC running Micros 2700 utilities (RM2700, EJ2700 etc.) There is no compelling reason to upgrade a pc running Micros 2700 software. If the pc is slowing down it may be due to larger than normal check files (electronic journal). The check files Micros stores must be periodically purged. If you must upgrade I would find an old 486 or low Pentium 200-500 range based PC with DOS 6.22 and use that. Very cheap and the most reliable OS to use with Micros 2700 software. It also may be a good time to re-examine why you use the Micros software. Back in the 90's there were three driving forces. 1) Processing credit cards thru the 2700 POS, 2) printing reports on 8x11 paper, 3) electronic journal. You can't use it for credit cards anymore and the 2700 does not need a pc server so you could stop using it altogether. Why upgrade?
I have to agree with Tobe. In addition, there is a very high probability that the 2700 software cannot run on any O/S newer than what you have. Early versions of both 3700 and 9700 could not run on anything beyond NT -- most likely 2700 has similar issues.

Wow! Have not heard of a Fastec user in many years. I would do as I mentioned earlier just load Win 95, if needed, you can get clean Win 95 disks. Win 98 could be problematic and never heard of an NT OS working with Micros 2700 software.
One thing I would not spend time doing is using a brand new mobo from 2008 and loading 95, 98 or NT.
If you are that committed to Fastec and desire reliability; buy, beg, borrow an old PC, they're very easy to come by if you know where to look. Find two, just in case. Install new power supply's ($40), dual hard drives, even an old HP Colorado 5Gb Tape drive unit ($40) for backup. Ultimately, I think that will be the least complicated and best approach. Good Luck!

Thank you for the help. I wish I would have done that. What happened is I bought a p4 3.0 motherboard that had a isa slot so I could you the pcisn card for the 2700 system.
The problem comes from the new motherboard, there are no drivers for the intel chipset older than windows98se.
When I try to use win95 it gives windows protection errors.
I found out that it loads the ide drivers wrong. I can correct this by installing 2000 or 98, but then 2700 will not run. I might have to give up on something ( fastec,2700. or new system}.
I did find out that the 2700 will run on the new motherboard under win 3.1 now if I can get fastec to work I will be all set. not ideal but it might work.

IMHO, all the work you're putting into making a sling for your broken POS may be better used evaluating a replacement solution. After all, you're repairing a system 15-20+ years old which is borderline prehistoric in computer hardware & application years.
Before you give up or use Win 3.1 realize that all the POS companies in your area (at least the ones that were around in the 90's) have old pc's that are trade ins etc. Responsible ones store these for a rainy day or the very likely event that an old customer has a failure. Anyway it's not hard to find just a pc as described earlier. 486 or low Pentium 200-500, 4Gb hard drive, tape drive and I'll bet they'd sell it "working" for $150. Load W95, install your PC\ISN board and be done with it. It's very important that you have a reliable backup system due to the Fastec app. You've invested time and a mobo at this point. State governments, local business offices are giving these pc's away just to unload them. Believe me... I have been there!

TobeThor, I just hate to give up on this motherboard. I have a p3 1000 that works but is getting old. The age of the system is the only reason for the upgrade. I just find it hard to beleave that the rm2700 cant be run on anything newer. Someone must have gotten it to work?
The RM2700 software was developed in the late 80's and early 90's. No development has occured since. You can try the Win 98, I have seen that work with RM2700. You just have to be prepared for comm port conflicts, but once you've worked around that it should be stable. Good Luck
