Bought a new Dell with XP Pro. Question... when I plug the microphone into the sound card mike plug, any sound through the mike also comes out of the speakers. Is this normal?

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Where would you like the sound to come out? Have you checked the options? Do you have any other programs that need a mike???????

Please let us know if the advice we give is of some help.
Feedback will benefit all

Look in your sound set-up panel for a setting called "microphone boost". Disable this. If on, the mic picks up vibrations from the desk and feeds back.

you need to go into your sound properties and click on MUTE where the microphone slider is. This will fix the problem.

As the machine is brand new, use Dell Technical support. Depending on models and the use of the microphone, there are alternative places to plug in the Mic.

Thanks to all who responded!!! ShadowYF21 had the ticket - muted the microphone and it worked like a champ!

Thanks again!

ShadowYF21 is always a real great help. Helped me out on another forum.
