Hello

I had bought a dell 4700 computer and I tried to chat through yahoo instant messenger but the microphone (which i had used earlier in my other computer and it is working fine there) is not working here. I searched through the internet for a solution. In one website I saw this message "To switch the function of the microphone jack in the BIOS to activate an additional outgoing channel". I don't know how to do this.

Can someone please help me to solve this problem.

Does the message you found relate to your problem or any error message you are receiving? Sounds like it is referring to something configurable in the poster's own Bios, so is that the same as yours?

Check in Sndvol32.exe/ Master Volume/ Options/ Properties/ Recording/ Microphone, check there that Microphone is selected.

Check the Microphone Volume Control and click Advanced (under the Mute box), then select Boost.

Is it muted? Is it switched off on the Microphone?

Some troubleshooting tips here.

Run DXdiag from the Start Run Box and in DirectX test your Microphone via Network/ DirectPlay Voice and run the Wizard.
