I used to play with my mic in a lot of games, and I could talk to people over mic chats, but now I can't do that
one day I turned on comp and the mic didn't work
I don't know how to fix it, i musta did something to change it, but I cant remember what i DID

and i ran the Sound Hardware Test Wizard

Your Computers sound hardware:
Playback: SB Live! Audio [D000]
Recording: SB Live! Audio [D000]

then it says speak into mic
i do
the bar doesn't move up, which shows my mic isnt picking up my voice, I hit next
it says THE WIZARD WAS NOT COMPLETE BECAUSE THE WIZARD DIDNT DETECT YOUR VOICE

any ideas?

Maybe the microphone is faulty, have you got a spare to try?

Is it connected properly?

Check if the microphone is muted. Some microphones have an external control for muting.

Open Volume Control and and on the Master Volume Control select options/ Properties in the drop down menu, check "Adjust Volume For Recording" and press O.K. In the Recording Control make sure Microphone is selected.

Some troubleshooting tips here.

Other things to try are System Restore to a point where your Microphone was last working, remembering that going back will also alter and revert other installlations and settings you may have made.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

the mic is connected properly
its not on mute
i have no points to restore too and i dont want to restore

i have not tried in safe mode
the mic worked before on this computer, so r u sure its the drivers?

I am not sure of anything, just trying to suggest possible causes and fixes. As with any problem you try anything and everything until you solve it. And one day you will, soon I hope.
