Newbie at this....
Searched the web, Citrix etc, found a couple of references, no solutions

Metaframe install fails to complete with error 26013, "Function Initialization Tree returned Failure in CTX_MF_IMA_Initialization Tree, the database username or password maybe wrong".
My Citrix server is on a DMZ ( sonicwall pro), Sql server on the internal LAN. Created a data farm database on a SQL server, ODBC connection established, tests OK. When the initial install is just about to complete I get the 26013 error, the install rolls back. Double checked the passwords. Opened the ports for services as prescribed by Microsoft and Citrix, and Sonicwall techs. Dns should be good; since I have the Citrix server on the DMZ, had to have a different subnet than the Lan; Lan is 192.168.1.x, Dmz is 192.168.2.x (Sonicwall requirement), have forward and reverse lookup for the DMZ in place. Tuesday I will transfer the citrix server back to the Lan and retry the install ( to check for possible port issue). Tried adding the domain\username instead of the username only when Citrix popup screen comes up just after the ODBC setup finishes. The Citrix install directory is d:\apps\citrix. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx

After 6 hours, another 4 hour of research.....

Citrix failed to state the install would work if the Cd contents are installed to a network drive, and installed from there

I'm curious as to why your Citrix server is in the DMZ - usually you would have Web Interface and Gateway servers in the DMZ, but the MetaFrame farm would be in the LAN.

Just curious :)

From your question, and research I will set it up as you prescribed.
Newbie at this, and this setup was just "play" at this point. I must find a decent book and study. I was suprised at the Citrix site, the PDF's they have are oriented more on sales then actual installation and technical help. Thank for inquiry, it keeps ignorance (me) from causing damage.

That's what sites like Tek-Tips are here for :)

However, the Admin Guide PDFs should help - and have a look at Citrix's ACG (Advanced Concepts Guide). These are not sales docs, although they're hardly architectural definitions either.

I will look at these PDFs; I picked up "Citrix Metaframe XP", advanced technical design guide, which explains the Gateway/Web interface senario. In your opinion what is the best book on Citrix ?. Another 800 page book would not hurt.

Before I read the book I was ready to turn this over to to someone certified in Citrix but the challange is too tempting, even though it is will only have 5 users, 10 at most

Thanx

Two books I always recommend are

Inside MetaFrame XP by Ted Harwood - getting a bit old now, but gives all the basics.

Inside Windows 2000 by Mark Russinovich and David Solomon - again, somewhat old, but gives a solid, technical grounding in the Operating system architecture.

A lot of people recommend the book by Brian Madden - and, in its favour, it does cover more recent developments such as the new printing architecture in Feature Release 1, and the Summary Database.

However, so do the product manuals!

The most important thing to learn, IMO, is not so much the Citrix software - that is quite straightforward - but the Terminal Services component of Windows 2000 Server, Policies and profiles (for which there is a 168 page white paper on Microsoft's site), and Group Policies.

Plus you can always come back here for free help - but remember to put some back!

Hope this is helpful

Thanks for the info again.
The Win 2000 area is not threatening, unless I miss a security tweak.

The book I mntioned above is by Madden; Of six books on Citrix I found, this was the most recently published and the only one with a section on CSG.

I often post replies on this site

Thank again
