I have an interesting (frustrating) issue I am trying to resolve and wonder if anyone has had any luck with a similar problem.

Server is Exchange 2003 SP2 running on SBS 2003 with SP2.

Messages to other domains seem to be a little slow but flow. Messages to vzw.blackberry.net are failing. The error shown in Queueu manager says The connection was dropped by the remote host.

If I telnet to vzw.blackberry.net on port 25 and try to give an helo command, telnet disconnects right away. I have no idea what is going on here.

What I have done to try and resolve this:

Disabled DNSProbes
Verified External DNS Servers and configured on Virtual SMTP server for outgoing DNS lookups.
Verified an SPF record exists.
Checked spam lists and did find customer was on two RBL lists. Cleared them off those lists.
Configured LinkSys firewall to only accept outgoing SMTP from the server so workstations could not be used to send spam.

Any other suggestions out there on how I could resolve this?

Can no-one suggest any additional things to check?

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Check your server IP in online databases, see if you've been blacklisted.

I meant to say check more, he's possibly listed elswhere.

The workaround for this issue is to setup a gmail account and forward client's mail to gmail account and setup gmail account to forward all mail to blackberry. Your client has been listed on SBLs and blackberry is VERY slow (weeks?) to follow up and remove offending IP. Setup gmail forwarding ASAP, not much else you can do now.

That is an interesting suggestion, I will give it a try. Do you know if GMAIL requires the user to login every month? Ideally I want this to be transparent to the user.

I hope you find this post helpful.

It's transparent and you get help from google in filtering spam if any, none gets delivered to your client. I suggest you log onto the gmail account once every 3 months. You can set it to forward mail and delete the original, this way mailbox is always empty.

Setting it up already now. Thanks for the suggestion.
