Is there a messenger service in 2000 that you can shut off similar to the one in xp that will eliminate popups?

Thanks i found it right after i posted this. I still get the pop up ads from int. explorer. Is there any way to disable this also?

Nope. Well...not really. You've probably picked up adware/spyware and that's causing your problems. Even with a clean machine, you'll get some pop-ups...nature of the beast anymore. If you wish, download and run Hijack This! and post a log for ananlysis. It would be best if you'd post it here: forum760

Hijack This! can be found here:

Most file-sharing applications like Kazaa and Bearshare come with ads galore. For some you might be able to find some hacks that disable the ads, but the one I tried for Grokster once didn't work. I wouldn't recommend it as you may permanently cripple your application if it goes wrong.

There are many services offering popup blockers, maybe you can look into one. Try going to Download.com and see what you find there. Lots of shareware to be found, even some freeware.

You might try installing the google IE toolbar it has built in popup add blocking. It will atleast cut down on the ads. Also as suggested a anti spyware program could help. I recommend spybot search and destroy. But, be aware if your program requires the ads (like Kazaa) and you remove it the program will not function.
