Hello all...

I am running a single Exchange 5.5 box with SP4. I am trying to set up message tracking in order to verfiy mail has left the server (to figure out if a problem is with me or the distant end). I have a very small number users, so log file size is not an issue.

How do I set this up?
How far back do the log files go by default?
Can I configure the settings give me more?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Message tracking is for internal to your network - tick the boxes on the IS, MTA and IMS property screens. This writes tracking logs in the share called \tracking.logs on your server(s), and the SA propeeties page has a box to define how many days the logs hand around for. You interogate the logs via the Message Tracking Centre of the Admin program.

IMS tracking is turned on via the Diagnostic Logging tab, plus you need to stop and restart the service for the settings to take effect. The options and levels are myriad, so do some experimentation. The results are in the Application event log, and/or in the LOGS directory under IMCDATA. The logs hand around forever, until you delete them.

None of the logging options are retrospective, so if you've just enabled them you need to repeat your testing.
