I have a single exchange 2000 server and one virtual smtp server, the problem is internet mail sent outside the organisation is bounced with a NDR if it is above the default limit of the message store even from account that have had the limit overriden, internally this works fine but for internet mail it does not seem to check to see if the account has a higer overiding limit and uses the default.

I have verifyed this by raising the limit, I have also applied higher limits at the smtp server end but this seems to make no difference.

Any ideas anyone ?

Are you sure the recipient doesn't have incoming message size limits imposed?

I have had the same issues/symptoms with my Exchange 2000 configuration. For external e-mails the overridding limits on the individual mailboxes are not taken into account. No problems internally though!

My work around was to take off the default limits within Exchange and apply message size limits to individual mailboxes. This could be a big task though if you have a large site.
