We have Message Manager and I have been able to connect to our Audix system and use it.

I have a couple issues:

1) I have to use the IP address of the system to access it. I would assume this would easily be resolved by adding the address and name of the system to the DNS Server on our network.

2) If we can add the address to the DNS and connect to the system using the system name, can you prevent it from being pinged? I am concerned with system security. If you can ping it and get the IP address you can use a simple terminal emulation program like HyperTerminal to access the administration of the system.

1. yes, you can add the name to dns, that is how we use ours.

2. you would still need the SA password to get into system admin, correct?

You will definatly need the password to get in. I use the same software and DO NOT have it in my DNS server. I do not log on to the network with it, but get to it through the network.

tweege/MrSal20,

Yes, you would still need the sa password to get into the system. My company is full of technical support people and I know that some of them will poke around and hack at the system if they find out they can get to the login.

I just prefer not to allow them to have any opportunity to find this login screen.

I added ours to DNS just to make it easier on clients to connect to their mailboxes either thru MM or POP3 access from Outlook or Lotus Notes. SysAdm terminal access is only via SSH moved to a non-standard, non-advertised port, so a hacker would have to portscan the box to find the access socket (which would set off some alarms I've set up), and even then they would have to crack the sa password. Oh, and all this is on our interior network (none of it advertised to the outside world).
