Hi

Newbie question, any syntax will be helpful.

I have 3903 and 3904 series phones. The phones are working but when you hit the Message key it does not do anything. I am not sure how to program it to connect to voice mail. DN for voicemail is 4088.

I tried the following but got a few errors not sure what i did wrong:

ld 20
REQ: chg
TYPE: 3903 or 3904
TN TN of the phone
ECHG yep
ITEM cls hta fna mwa
ITEM hunt 4088
ITEM fdn 4088
ITEM key mwk 4088

It is the last line where I get error message SCH1359

Please help.

Thanks

Don't make us guess, Please post the TNB of the phone that doesn't work.

Key 16 was missing from your example. Also 4088 must be a CDN or ACD with MWC=yes or CDP

in your original posts, you just missed the key 16 part, the mwk needs to be on key 16 for those two sets. the rest looks right. the forward number when dialed has to give you the mailbox? prompt. i assume from your post that that dn is 4088

I followed the above and after changing everything, when I go to the phone and hit the message key nothing happens, no response.

Almost like the key is disabled... if that is the case, how do i enable it.

I did see the tn.. and key 16 shows up as

KEY 16 mwk 4088

Please forgive me for this, but are you pulling dial tone first?

I don't quite understand what you mean?

If you mean that if I am picking up the handset and then hitting the message key, when I hear the dialtone?

yes

or the speaker phone and then the message key.

nothing happens.

make sure the firmware of that set matches the firmware of the switch..

fvwu x x x x, might need to download that firmware. look at the ld 32 commands.. with key 16 mwk 4088 and it not working, .........what happens when you dial 4088? if she says maibox? then your either looking at bad firmware of a patch... rls ? ld 22 issp

Yes.

that is how we have been accessing it.

It is definitely a software issue as JP stated. Not sure how to fix it as I am on release 24 and you can not upgrade/downgrade the firmware on the phones with that release, atleast that is what I was told, so I am stuck.

I am going to see if I can exchange the phones for a different release/firmware :-(

Is this a batch of phones recently purchased?

Are the phones labeled correctly? The lower row of keys caps can be moved with a #9 Klien or similar tool.

From left to right the seven lower row keys on a M3903/M3904 should be:
Headset - Options - Message - Directory/Log - Applications - Shift

Also, what is the make and model of voice mail? Nortel Meridian Mail, CallPilot, CallPilot Mini, or a 3rd party system?

Can't downgrade M3900's firmware on a release 24 switch? That might be true.

Tommorow I'll be at a site that has a spare 61C running release 24. If I have time I'll try a firmware download to a M3904 and post the results.

my rls 24 did allow download but not with the ld 87 fdl command, just the ld 32 one at a time command. i am on rls 3 now so ld 97 is a lot faster way to go

Have you tried a known working phone on that TN that the phone doesn't work??

Folks, the M3904 message key testing has been completed on the 61C/rel 24 PBX.

Firmware download: Did not work. None of the published firmware download commands in both LD 32 and LD 97 worked. Release 24 NTP's do not list any firmware download type commands.

Message Key on M3904 sets: Worked as designed - but only on a phone with firmware prior to "context sensitive soft keys".

One Solution: If I remember correctly, context sensitive soft keys was introduced with release 25.30. Therefore, performing a firmware download to the telephones on a PBX running release 25.08, 25.10, or 25.15 and than moving those telephones over to the release 24 PBX should solve the message key problem. Should... but I have not tested this solution.

For reference, the working M3904 telephone had firmware version 029.
