Hi All!

Okay....I have a Tendberg SLR1 250MB Tape Backup I use for Meridian Mail. Can anyone tell me what a comparable Tape Backup drive would be (can I use the SLR4?).

Thanks!

Are you looking for a tape drive or the tape cartridge? You might do a Google search to locate either or the URL of the previous post for the tape.

any 60 gig tape will work in that drive, i have not found a secondary mfg for the drive itself.. a point of interest, i do a full backup once a week. each weeknight i do a partial. if you do a restore and have an os problem, load the box with the install tape, then a restore off of the partial. if you have an os problem, do an install from a install tape, try to do a restore to the mb's, the FULL backup starts by formatting the drive. i rececntly had a mail that was no longer bootable, because i only had a full backup with the nonbootable os on the tape, i had to enter 1900 users by hand and of course lost all msgs, passwords, grettings and menus.. leraning that the hard way made for a tough week

Good info John...I am looking for a Tape Drive...not the tapes...What kinds of Tape Drives are recommended for doing the backup?

I would recommend another TANDBERG drive, even if the one you have has gone bad. They are usually a solid drive for this type of service and the company has been around a long long time.

John Poole, I did not realize that would happen with full backups on the MerMail. That is an excellent tip and that explains part of the problem I had on the OP11C on that other post of mine. So to clarify, you do a partial backup for the mailboxes and a full for everything else?

right if you pick all the options on the backup screen except the 1st line, everything except the os is backed up. i got burned on that once during a upgrade, because the backup was full i couldn't restore user data, with the tape formated my hd, blowing away my new rls. restored to the old rls, did a partial backup, installed the new os, did the restore to my partial.. that shouldn't be necessary due to the fact that the info on the hd is used to restore, in that case i had a can not find file error. so instead of the normal 3 hour upgrade, it was closer to 24 hours.. in the other case, the mail crashed after a power fail, the os was non bootable, and so was the only backup... the next question nortel asked was "How fast can you type" .. the mb were pretty quick with a script, i had zero records of 30 plus menu's.. i found the numbers via acd pilot numbers and called each dept, after they got back to work monday.. with that many menus now going to the operator, i didn't make any friends amoung 8000 plus users
