If you do a search on Merlin Mail reset - you should find your answer. You do need a PC, and a null modem to make the connection using Hyperterminal - set at 1200 baud, 1 stop bit, 8 data, no parity, xon/xoff protocol. Make the connection using a DB9 serial cable from the computer's COM1 port to a DB9 to DB25 converter to a null modem (I have only been able to find the 25-pin version - hence all the converters) to another db25 to db9 convertor to the 9-pin Com1 serial port on the Merlin Mail (for some reason I could never get the 25-pin connector to work correctly). Start hyperterminal, hit enter - you should be prompted for a passwrod - just use the admin mailbox password. You should get the menu key - choose shutdown - wait for the system to shut down and the menu to reappear. Press escape once. Type in "init" and press enter. Depending on vintage - the system may do a hard drive test first. If the drive passes - it will start the reinitialization.
