Hi i am importing an excel file into access, but i need to merge the first two cells in the excel file before the file is imported, as the headings are broken up in to two cells.
I know how to merge cells in excel, but i need to know how to merge cells in the excel file through access, is that possible.

Play with OLE Automation instantiating an Excel.Application object.

Hope This Helps, PH.

ive tried range("A2:A3").Select but it cannot recognise the select....

As your VBA is not hosted by Excel you have to full qualify all the Excel's object:
myXLobj.range("A2:A3").Select
