Menus

Hi there!

I'm relatively new to Dreamweaver and web design and I'm having trouble making pop-up menus... I built a pop-up menu in Fireworks that I have tried repeatedly to import into Dreamweaver to no avail. I can't seem to use the fireworks menu as my side frame in Dreamweaver, because the menu gets swallowed. Does anyone know how to get around this?

So I've been exploring other sorts of menus-- Does anyone know what program or what type of menu you see on the right at

? It's the menu with the headings Getting Started, Dreamweaver Concepts, etc. I can't read HTML well enough to figure out what sort of menu this is, or what program I would use to build such an animal.

Can anyone help?

Problem of pop-up menus has been recently discussed on FireWorks forum (forum726 You may also see this link that has an answer to your problem:

About Macromedia's site - they use Flash technology. It's very easy to check - right click on this menu and you'll see "about Macromedia Flash 5" that means they use Flash. You may do the same thing using FW pop-up menu.

The fireworks thing is a big problem! You'd think they could make it cleaner to intergrate... <grumble grumble>

What I usualy do is, I export the FW file as an HTML and Image, then I just copy and paste the code in the apporiate location on the HTML file you want it on. If you're plannin on using frames, then you'd have to link the HTML files as targets... I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

1) I think that using DW built-in functions, like Insert Fireworks HTML, much better and easier than doing it manually.

2) I usually set all link parameters, such as target, in FW file. Because if you need to rebuild something (as you know it happens very often) you don't need to change your links again and again.

I have been wrestling with the same situation as yourself being fairly new at web design, and don't have the time to learn Java or wrestle with the quirks of Flash or Fireworks. I did find a great little proggy for creating javascript-based menus that is much easier to deal with, called Selteco Menu Maker. Creating the menus is a snap, and getting the code into your html is pretty straightforward.
I've looked at dozens of menu generators, and this is the best by far. Whereas a lot of the others produce code that doesn't function on a &quot;live&quot; web page, the only limitation this one has is the 5-day expiration before you have to register/purchase it. Worth your while to give it a shot.
