When I move my mouse to an option eg Start then Programs all the items under programs disappear before I can see what they are. The programs are still there but it disappears so quickly that you can not see what they are.
I am using a laptop running Windows Media Edition.

I do not know how to stop this happening. Any help greatly accepted!

Cheers
Debbie

My guess would be adaware or trojans as the culprit.

First run a scan here

Remove anything it finds

Once that is done, empty out all temp folders.

C, documents and settings, username, local settings, temp (delete everything inside here)

do that for each username on the computer

also the other location
c, winnt or windows, temp (delete everything in here)

Now download hijackthis from the link below. Extract it to desktop, open it up and choose do a system scan and save a profile. Then post the logfile on here. Also do not attempt to fix anything on it unless you know what your doing because not everything it shows is bad.

Try downloading Crap Cleaner, a free app available @ It will clean out Temp files, Cookies etc., in seconds.
You can also download free apps for Antivirus/Spyware & Rootkit from As electronicfreak said, do a scan only in Hijackthis & save the log to post before fixing. A good idea before attempting any fix is to run regedit, click file and export your registry to Desktop in case you run into problems. Also shut down systems restore before making any fixes so you won't re-input any problem in your registry that you resolved.
Hope these help.

Try the free version of "Ewido" now called "AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5"

Are you using the touchpad/joystick or an external mouse. I've had this happen with an external mouse where somehow, XP had picked up the wrong driver. Using the touchpad was ok.

I've also had it happen the other way round where the touchpad had gone a bit wonky but an external mouse fixed it.

Check that none of your keys are stuck down.
