Is there a menu bar control that you can place on the form?

I know that you can do that with the Access shell, but I want to be able to have the menu bar (File|Edit|View|Window|etc.) placed at the top of my form instead. That way, when done, I can run the form without the shell and have it as a free standing window (form).

Anyone know?

Check out the Microsoft Toolbar Control. You can set dropdowns up in the control's property page that you could construct like the various menus you need.

Although, if you really don't need the shell of access and the default menus to the point that you aren't going to use them, you might want to develop your front end in something like VB. That will give you the stand-alone look and functionality, and you can still connect to your database on the backend.

Yeah, I know about the Toolbar control--it's just that if you use it you'd have to stick it onto the Access shell, which is what I didn't want...but that's what I'll have to settle for.

Regarding VB (not VBA, which is for Office Applications) you have the menu bar control available to you in Visual Studio to build a true application program.

Anyways, thank you for your comments rubbernilly. :)

The Microsoft Toolbar Control (v 6.0) is an ActiveX control, and doesn't have to be applied to the shell. It can, as far as I know, be put on a form.

That isn't a great solution, because then you have to distribute the control with your database, which can be a headache. That's why I suggested VB (as opposed to VBA), since that seemed - for the reasons you mention - to be able to do exactly what you want.

hi ZmrAbdulla,

I signed up to the forum and downloaded the sample file...nifty!

Thanks. :)
