Hello All! I am running Windows XP Pro on a Dell Comp. with an Intel Celoron D. My PC will not recognize the new memory for use. I have 2048 of memory but the computer only recognizes 256mb. What can be te problem?
What kind of memory did you install? I have no experience of Dell machines, let alone that model, but I found the memory requirements on Dell's website.
Well on the site spv posted it does show the computer is capable of handling 2GB as long as you dont exceed each stick being a maximum of 1GB. Meaning if your running 2GB it should be a combo of 2 1GB sticks, or 4 512 sticks. If you are along the lines of that then try resetting the bios. (make sure computer is unplugged before you do that).
Also if that does not work, look for bios updates that may be a fix to the problem.

They are also good at setting up the timing on some machine lines so that you have to use specialized memory, or in some cases, memory with specific chips.
Don't know if this is one of those.
