our server has 2GB of memory installed but is currently using 1.95GB according to the task manager.

can anyone tell me if this will be greatly effecting the performance of the system or will there only be a slight drop. its running SBS 2003 with Exchange also installed

many thanks

Wow thats a load of memory usage.

We have a 2000 server running exchange and we never get anywhere near that, but we only have about 26 users.

The last time I had memery usage like that the machine had not been rebooted for a long time, I was told that memory 'leeks' away if a machine is not rebooted every now and again.

So I reboot the server every month or so and all is fine. I am not sure if this helps or if it is good practice but it sorted me out.

we have around 80 users with large exchange databases. we also run other programs on there. will give the reboot as go

thanks

Since you are running exchange, did you set the /3GB switch in the boot.ini file?

not sure, but doesnt that only apply when you have 3GB installed, i only have 2GB

You should do the /3GB switch on any Exchange Server that has more than 1GB of RAM. See this KB for details... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328882/en-us
