Is it possible for "bad" memory to cause heat issues?

Asus A7A266 (POS!)
AMD Athalon 1.4Ghz
Antec Heatsink/Fan (Rated to 1.5Ghz)
64Mb nVidia GeForce 2 MX-400
256Mb PC2100 DDR (Not sure of brand)
Samsung 16x40x DVD
SB Live! 5.1

I've had continuous heat problems no matter what I do. Should I change the board? The memory? The processor?

Ideas?

What have you got at the interface between the heatsink and the CPU, HiLiKuS? Thermal paste, or a thermal pad? I recommend paste, myself (Arctic Silver is good).

Also, what sort of PSU do you have? Sounds wierd, but, if you have a PSU with an underside fan on it, you get vastly improved cooling through your case, provided that you've got a reasonable airflow track.

For a HEAT issue (you don't mention a CPU TEMP), you have mentioned NO PARTS that relate to heat.

How about a Rhort's advise ? It's good, but you may just want to buy a NEW FAN...... a name brand one, that is rated HIGHER than the 1.4 GHz.

******* YOUR CASE !!! You need to add airflow, that is, MORE fans.
* #1) A nice SLOT fan under your video card.
#2) CASE FANS: At least one in the front, and you should have a second fan also - above, or in the middle of the back.
If you have a cheap generic case, then try an INWIN S500 with 300 WATT P/S. BUY 2 FANS to go with it,,, 1 front, one Back.
* That and a GOOD - Hi-Rated fan, COOLER MASTER is good for the money.
you can get all of that at a good price from
I set up a computer with ATHLON XP 1600+ - with that set up I list above, and it runs at 98.5 F after benchmarking ( that is, working hard).
* The fan was a

Thermaltake VOLCANO 6Cu+. Heatsink + Dual Ball-Bearing Fan, FAN Speed: 7000±10% RPM. Max. Air Flow: 38CFM. Pure Copper base & contact face. Interface Material: Bergquist 225U. Dimensions: 80x60x65 mm. (* According to Manufacturer, This fan is designed for AMD ATHLON 1.9GHz+, INTEL PIII 1.13GHz & TUALATIN, up to 2.0GHz.*)

$13.00

* THESE ARE LOUD THOUGH,,,,,, 7,000 RPM
It will cure your heat problems.
