Memory not recocnized

I have a gigabyte GA-71xe4 mother board and I am trying to upgrade my memeory to 512 mb with a 256 pc133 memory stick.There is a stick of 256 pc133 already installed and it works fine but when I add the new stick it wont recognize it it still says I have 256 mb of ram. Any one gave any ideas why it wont recognize the new stick? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take out the old stick and replace it with the new one. If it still does not work you have a bad stick of memory.
