I have two 64 meg RAM memory modules in a Win98SE PC.

Is there some reliable memory-manager/utility/freeware that would let me:
1. check to see if each "stick" is working?
2. shut off the malfunctioning one, if it exists, without messing me up, till I replace it?
Thanks.

You would know immediately if one of the "sticks" sucked, you'd get either a "parity Error" or "Lockup/Page Fault". Why do you suspect? What problem are you actually experiencing? Did you see a message at boot up?

If you really really really want to know what your sticks are up to, the word on the street is "Troubleshooter" by Forefront (813)724-8994, Norton Diag's (Part of "Utilities") or for the ubergeeky "QA Plus/FE" from Diagsoft (813)207-7000.

Good luck

Thank you, milanOvich

When the second 64 meg RAM module was added, I soon afterwards developed Win98SE shutdown freezes that have never been alleviated despite following all the moves and tweaks I've read of.

I thoughy there might be a freeware utility that could check up on memory in various aspects. (conflicts/malfunctions/whatever)
I realize a simple test would be to replace what's there and see if that does anything.

I also realize the intractable shutdown hangs could be coincidental.
Thanks.

Here is a free utility for that:

Why don't you just take the second stick out that you added and see if it clears up your problem. "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing....." [morning]
