Hi There, I wonder if soembody could please give me an option.

I have now had 2 lots of memory modules put into my PC (P4 3Ghz using a Foxconn 661FX7MF motherboard) and I still have a problem with the PC just rebooting itself wihtout any warning.

When I run memtest and the Microsoft memory checking utility windiag, they both report errors in the memory. I initially had 2 modules of 256MB and then changed to 1 1GB and I still get errors. I have reset the BIOS congiguation on both ocassions, just to be sure.

I am now wondering if the motherboard has a problem?

All of this started by the fact that Windows would just reboot without warning at least once a day and the mini dump file pointed to a RAM problem (bug check code of 1000000a).

I can take the PC back to the suplier, but they are not very local to me now that I have moved, but I was wondering wether the memory testing utilities such as memtest where actually OK to use with the P4 3GHz prcessors.

Any opinions wpould be much appreciated.

Thanks

I have never had problems with memtest but I've never run it on a p4. I would say you have a bad mobo but the problem could be something else like a powersupply dropping out. I'd take it back while that is still an option then you will know for sure.

The answer has always been 42

I had a similar problem and fixed it by changing stuff like the prefetch time and wait clocks in the BIOS. I can't remember exactly what I did though. I do recall it took a lot of fiddling with BIOS parameters and running memtest for for about a week! I didn't have any other option though as nothing was under guarantee.

I would do what franklin says though & take it back if you can.

Before running test they should be configured correctly in bios to there specifications. Also when testing only test one chip at a time. Otherwords have only one chip on the motherboard at a time when testing. Once both of those are followed and you still get errors then the chip is bad and should be rma'd.

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for the replies - just got back from the PC supplier - they have replaced the motherboard and now memtest works fine (as does the Microsoft Windiag utility). Thus at least I now know that they work OK on Pentium P4's.

Right on with some development, now my PC is not rebooting as and when it likes!!

Thanks again.

After the motherboard change everything appears to be OK - the PC has not rebooted itself yet anyway.

Thanks again for the help / ideas.

oh ok i misunderstood the post lol thought you were saying the new board was rebooting randomly lol. sorry about that.
