Using Access 2002

I have a memo field in a table that loses all text after 265 characters after I tab out of the field. It does this when I enter the text in the form or directly into the table. The help file says that the memo field stores up to 65,000+ characters. Would anyone know why my text would be dropping off?

Thank you for the help.

One thing that I've run into with memo fields is that tabs and carriage return/line feeds can make the displayed text appear incomplete (when in fact, all the text is there!).

Hope this helps.

Mike,

I've looked into that angle and the problem I'm receiving is that the text is actually gone. it doesn't show up in my report or in the form. It is just completely odd.

Is the table linked or native to Access?

I had the format condition set to > to force all the text to capitals. I took off this formating and it now seems to be keeping all the text. In the form view it only displays the 265 characters. In the report it displays them all.

Is there a way that I can have all the text display in the text box (bound to Memo field) on my form?

Lonnie,

What do you mean by linked or native to access?

The table is in a back end access file, if that's what you mean.

Yes, that's pretty much what I meant. I was just curious if it was linked from an ODBC source like SQL Server.

Looks like you have it fixed though.

Lonnie,

To your knowledge is there a way to have the form display all the text in the memo field? It displays the first 265 characters in the form, but it shows everything in the Report. I would like it (if possible) to show everything in the form as well. Or is this an Access limitation?

265 is the limit for textboxes. Any chance you could use a listbox instead?

Text box works best. I guess I'll have to figure a way around it. Thanks.

jer007,

A text box on a form will show as many characters as the underlying field holds. You may want to look at the format or input mask of the form to be sure that it was not inherited. I have text boxes connected to memo fields in tables that show over 1500 characters on the screen.

Lonnie,

I think my problem was that I had the format for the report, table, and textbox all set to > to force all text to capital letters. When I took that formating off it seems to display perfectly.

Thank you for your help, it's much appriciated.
