Has anyone seen any documents that say I need "x" media servers for "y" clients, or "y" tape drives, or "xy" gb of data, or "y" policys ?
We've been working on some intermittent connection issues with support and we think our media servers might be over-loaded, but the powers-that-be are looking for some hardcopy document that says you need "x" media servers to handle "y" something.

Run out and buy "Implementing Backup and Recovery: The Readiness Guide for the Enterprise" by David Little and David Chapa. Well worth the investment, gives examples and troubleshoot tips and the like.

best practice for tape drives is 20 tapes controlled per server..however we have had ONE Hp server controllign 40 drives for over a year just fine backing up 320TB per month

Another company I worked for "Applied" makes any server with over 80GIG of data it's own media server. I believe they have over 150 media servers now

good luck
