Hello

We are using Arcserve Backup for Windows 11.1 SP2 Build 3212 on Windows Server 2003 R2.

I recently reinstalled Arcserve because the program/database became corrupted.

I have a question about media pool retension times. We use a GFS rotation scheme, and the retension period for the weekly tapes is set at 34 days.

Today I have looked at the weekly media pool and saw that a weekly backup set from 4 Jan 2008 (>90 Days ago), 11 Jan, 18 Jan, 1 Feb, 8 Feb, etc still resides in the Save Set. There should be not be any media in the Save Set earlier than March 2008 as I understand it. See this screenshot for more information (dates are D/M/Y format):

Can anyone tell me what may cause this please, and how I may prevent this from happening?

Thanks

Mark

media pool has two criteria, 1) # of days and 2) # of tapes only after both are fulfilled will a tape be moved to the scratch set.

If there are just a few certain tapes stuck there and others migrate to the scratch set correctly it could be DB corruption.

Hi David, thanks for your reply.

As you can see from the screenshot, the minimum No. of media is 4, so no problems there. Also, the number of days is fine too. I have just finished running a database check on all the databases in the Arcserve folder using the dbcheck.exe utility, and no errors were reported for any of them.

Are there any other checks\programs\utilities I can make\use to determine if there are any database problems?

If anyone else has any suggestions as to what may be causing this, please post.

Many thanks

Mark

Tapes on most of the occasions will get moved to the scratch set when the job starts. So best thing to do is to monitor the job for atleast one weekly backup and see if the tapes move
