"Class Not Registered " I upgraded to Media Player 9 after receiving a series of error messages from version 7 about internal program failures while trying to stream an wma audio file from the Web. I thought that if I couldn't figure it out I'd just let the upgrade handle it. Didn't quite work out. Now, any time I try to do something, the media won't play, telling me that the class is not registered. I don't even know what that means. Anyway, it happens with everything from CDs to Web files. I called Microsoft and after two hours all I could get was "try downloading again." I tried that -- four times. And with a dial-up connection that blew about a day and a half.
Although the program is physically installed and the new shortcut appears on the desktop, the install program always finishes by telling me that the install did not finish correctly and that I should run it again after first restarting. When I restart, before loading windows, I get an error message thats says something to the effect of "Windows could not update system file %1 to %2." The message appears twice or three times and then Windows continues to load.
Weird, right?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to work from home and I need access to certain media files.
Thanks
