Hi --

I'm new to Veritas (using 9.1) and I'm trying to set up a backup that would just append new/modified data nightly to the tape we have inserted into our tape backup. When I click on "Devices", the tape drive's "Appendable Until" variable currently shows "Not Appendable". Is there any way to enable this feature? This seems odd... any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

To append to this tape you need to move the tape to another media set which has longer append period as your policy requirement,
if you intend to append on this tape forever then change you current media set to Infinite Allow append and then your problem going to be solved.

It all depends on your policy.

My media set is set to "Infinite - Allow Append" already. Overwrite protection period on the media set is NONE. So I don't think that is the problem...

Does anyone else have an idea?

Could it be a corrupt tape? I've erased the media and I'm just trying to do a full backup of the server. I set up the job correctly, I insert the media... then the tape just sits in the drive and does nothing for a while (5 - 10 minutes). Then the drive ejects the media. I haven't had these problems in the past until I attempted to set up an appending setup for our backups.
