Measuring Tempurature 1

I see alot of posts where people can read their CPU temps. How do you accomplish this? Is it with the thermal sensing built onto the motherboard? A seperate Hardware/Software solution?

The temperature is read using onboard sensing equipment tied into the BIOS(usually)or some other software packaged with the Mainboard.
If your mainboard doesnt have this feature you can always go the electronics route and use a digital contact thermometer that you install yourself.

You will need a utility to view the CPU temp while in Windows. I use VIA Hardware Manager, a free program that works on VIA chipset motherboards. I'm too lazy to look for it, but try a google search or go to

Not all boards have the ability to tell you the temperature.

I have always had good luck with "MotherBoard Monitor". This allows temp, fanspeed, voltages and misc monitoring. It is very good at self-configuring but does reqire a little work to display only required stats. Here is the homepage.
