I can't get out of an ME re-install loop.
Q: How do I quit the install process and get ME to do a "Normal" boot?

I tryed to do an over the top reinstall of ME on a friends PC, to replace a missing mouse driver and some other files. The original ME CD and key were not available, but I had an ME CD and reinatalled from this. I had to skip some steps as a "mini.cab" that install was looking for on C: was not found. The mouse drivers are now reinstalled, but the installation process won't finish, it gets stuck on "Setting up Hardware" and restarting the PC doesn't help. Now every time I reboot the install process tryes to finish, but won't. I want to get out of install and finish configuration manually, but can't find the command that re-starts the install, to disable it.

Q: How do I quit/finish the install process and get ME to do a "Normal" boot?

P.S. I can boot into safe mode or DOS, to edit any startup files or registry keys, if someone knows what to edit.

P.P.S. I hate Win ME!

try using the ME System Restore to bring the system back to where it was before you began to make the changes. Once the system has done that and rebooted see if everything else works OK and then:

Go to System Manager, uninstall the keyboard, reboot the system and it should now detect the keyboard as New Hardware Found. Put the ME CD in the drive when prompted, and follow the Wizard, the drivers should then install OK. If the copy of ME on the computer is legitimite then it shouldn't matter that you are using a different CD.

Once everything is loaded for the keyboard go through the same steps for the Mouse. Unless you a certain of being able to regain control don't try and do both at once, in case you loose control of the system.
