Just stumbled on this in the 7.5 NTP. This was apparently introduced in release 7.0 but must have been missed in the "What's New" document.
MCR keys always had the drawback that the line would be busy to another incoming if there was already a call ringing.
There is now an option (MKRL) in the Customer Data Block FTR_DATA that seems to resolve that problem. It would only help when there are two or more MCR keys on a set with the same DN but it does make MCR a much better solution for some situations.
From the Feature Guide topic for Multiple Appearance Directory Numbers:
In a Multiple Call Arrangement, the same DN can appear more than once on the same
telephone. In a Multiple Call Arrangement, if MKRA is configured on the Customer Data Block,
all idle DN keys on a MADN telephone are presented (or flash if configured as MCN) during
an incoming call. If MKRL is configured, the lowest idle MCR/MCN DN key on each MADN
telephone is placed in a ringing state during an incoming call. Other MCR/MCN keys on the
same telephone remain idle and calls can be made or received regardless of the status of other
MCR/MCN keys for the same TN. The same DN can be used for all the MCR/MCN keys which
eliminates the necessity of maintaining numerous DN numbers for every secondary key.In
situations where the system is upgraded from an earlier release, the default value is set to
MKRA. If a new default Customer (CUST) block is created, the default value is MKRL.
