MCI problem with video CDs

When using a variety of different packages to watch video CDs (including programs supplied with the CDs themselves) the programs either crash or display an error message which varies from program to program but includes MCI messages.<br>
<br>
There are various codecs and MCI devices loaded, but this is not really my area of expertise and any help/ advice or software advice would be usefull.
