Hi,
I have a Windows 2000 machine that gives the following message every time someone logs in:
"WebScanX.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created."

I can't figure out why this is happening or how to fix it. I'm worried that this means that McAfee isn't working, or at least some components of it. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling but it didn't seem to help. Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this or what could cause it?

Thanks,
Shauna

Hey carr,

Thanks for the link. I rolled back the computer to IE 5 as the thread suggested and it seems to be working now. This is really strange since we have other computers set up exactly the same way and they can run IE 6 with McAfee 4.51 just fine. Oh well, as long as it works I don't really have to understand why.

Thanks,
Shauna

I too get the message, so this morning I decided to research it. I did a search on my computer for "webscanx" and found the program and two text files containing the following information.

"The java and ActiveX scanning done by WebScanX version 3.1.6 is not compatible with Microsoft Windows 2000, and Windows Explorer will not function properly if WebScanX is not uninstalled. You must uninstall this software before continuing with the upgrade.

For more information about this software, or to obtain a version that runs under Windows 2000, visit the manufacturer's Web site at
For a list of software supported by Windows 2000, see the Microsoft Windows 2000 Product Compatibility List at
I am going to research further and experiment to see if I can fix it
