All of a sudden a few computers here at work now start with this error "Avsynmgr.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.... blablabla" I think these particular PCs have automatically updated themselves and the updates were bad. Does anyone know what is going on? I will try to perform updates from previous weeks but don't think that will work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Mcafee to no avail. We are all on Viruscan 4.5 and the engine was up to date on Windows 2000 SP4 and the latest fixes from Windows Update. Thanks all!!!

Hi Steven
we're having the same problem on two PC's as well. Since about a week. Have you found out anything about it yet? I will let you know, if we do, too.

I was trying to do it via the console but since the console wouldn't run I was unable to do it. I actually cured it a different way over the weekend. I found a 4.5.1 update and that seemed to have fixed the problem as well. Once updated, I rana dat update and whala. Thanks for your suggestion. anyone with the same problem can now fix it one of two ways.

Steven
I am running 4.5.1. cna u pls tell me where you found the update.
Thx

Dear Steven

Can you explain where your 4.5.1 update is and how you install if you can't load even the console.

I keep getting a VsMain.exe error message and Dr. Watson error message about being unable to attach to the process. But the avsynmgr.exe error is the more reoccuring.

Thanks

Anthony

Both solutions work perfectly. I have an SDAT and I have the 4.5.1 update. Send me your email address. The 4.5.1 update is 16mb but the SDAT is 5.5mb. If you have an FTP site I would gladly upload either or both for you.

Thanks for this speedy response.

I've discovered other threads that refer to v.5 of Viruscan being unsupported by McAfee and also having differing engines that can't handle either recent SuperDat or Dat and Engine downloads.

I'm running v.5.2.1. So would your files work with this version?

Thanks

Anthony

hmmm, that I cannot be sure of. You can try running this SDAT which I downloaded from Mcafee. It is SDAT v4367. In my past Mcafee experience, if the sdat is too old or was created for some other version of Virusscan then it will tell you that and not install itself. Good luck!

Just wanted to thank the people for these posts, I'm a 1 man LAN and when this started happening last week I thought this must be some sort of new virus and tried looking high & low for a solution when it was just the update, luckly. I just d/l the SuperDAT and then did remote install onto user's PCs and it now works again.

thanks....
