maxlogins on aix 4.1 machine 7043.

I have a problem wherby no more than two people can telnet to the machine at any one time. I f anyone else tries you get "all available login sessions are in use".
I have ammended login.cfg in /etc/security from 2 to 8. The machine has been rebooted still no luck.

To recap machine is an IBM 7043 with aix 4.1. Ant suggestions would be greatly appreaciated.

You need to get more licensed users. Contact your IBM folks and get more licensed users. Then go to "smitty chlicense" to add them.

Change to any numbers you want.

or maybe u will have to add more ptys
smit pty

choose change/show characteristics of the pty


In the maximum number of pseudo- terminals give the number u want .

AIX now has unlimited used licences included with the OS. This was annonced with AIX 4.3.3 and made retrosepctive to all AIX 4.X.X versions. If you are still using 3.2 all bets are off.

Icehawk - can you confirm this with a document link ? Here is the way I understand the new licensing procedures:

Purchase a new server with AIX 4.3.3. That server has unlimited licensing. If you have existing servers, they are not eligible for the unlimited licensing - even if you upgrade to AIX 4.3.3.

Well my 2 cents

I would check your pty as well smitty pty
change/show ptys and see what set at? Also
smitty chlicense set higher to say 50 to see if that helps. Yes at 4.1 you needed
to purchase additional license ....But you cannot purchase 4.1 any longer....Withdrawn.....and it is no longer supported by IBM...so as a trial to see if it helps..

Also what is thewall set at? no -o thewall
It should be about 1/8 of memory more if you do a lot of network stuff
