Some of my workstations are throwing an error when a user with a roaming profile logs on as it pushes the reg size over the maximum. If i increase the maximum registry size in control panel the problem is solved.

This is happening on a few old stations and i would like to increase the max reg size but without having to logon to every station does anyone have a script or other method that i could run to set this?

Thanks.

I think i've found the correct key i'll give it a try, anyone know off the top of their head if HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE can be altered at system startup via a startup script?

Import using regedit /s at startup

Regedit /s %Logonserver%\NETLOGON\Regfixes\regsize.reg
-----------------------------------------------------------

the reg fragment contains this

REGEDIT4

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\RegistrySizeLimit
"RegistrySizeLimit"=dword:3200000

-----------------------------------------------------------

That didn't work. I've tried running it as an admin and it doesn't seem to change, if however i edit the reg manually then check in control panel it shows the correct value.

I've changed the reg frag slightly but it still doesn't work, can anyone see if i have the syntax incorrect?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\RegistrySizeLimit
"RegistrySizeLimit"="3200000"

Thanks.

Are you in the correct forum?

linney thanks for the links i think i'm in the right forum this problem relates to XP and 2k stations.

I think i just have the format of the registry key incorrect.

Thanks for the key bcastner but it still doesn't seem to alter the entry. If i run the file it informes me that the file has been merged with the registry but the entry in the registry doesn't change.

Reading one of the links i see what you mean linney i was assuming this would affect our XP staions as well as our 2k ones so i chose this forum.

I did reboot the PC's and the reg entry is already there even on PC's that i haven't altered before.

I'll take a closer look at the second link tomorrow.

Thanks.

-------- start copy/paste below this line
REGEDIT4

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
"RegistrySizeLimit"=dword:ffffffff

-------- end copy/paste above this line

Ok i copied that into a reg file and imported it, after i restart the machine what should i see in control panel?

The box still says 22Mb will that increase on demand?

Thanks.

Have you tried any registry cleaning software?

One I use is called EasyCleaner - it's freeware and can be used to clean up your registry, temp files, duplicate files etc. etc.

Decent bit of software.

Sorry to post back again bcastner but i still can't get this to work should i be able to run this as a startup script to increase the reg size. If not are you saying that when you logon to a Win2k station and run that file that the size is increased?

Thanks.

If i paste the ffffffff directly into the reg the change shows in control panel but not when i run the reg file, on some PC's the reg key isn't even there will i need to try something else to create the key as well?

Thanks.

I've sorted it at last, it was so easy i just couldn't see it.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control]
"RegistrySizeLimit"=dword:ffffffff

The brackets were missing from the beginning and end of the top line. :)

Thanks too all.
