Anyone seen info regarding the maximum number od DS1's you should put in per Port Network/Carrier. Not getting much joy from Avaya on it & I think we may be overloaded on 2 cabs..?

Cheers in advance!

Avaya uses 8 per port network as a rule of thumb but it really depends on the traffic. Splitting an MCC or stack of SCC's into a "dual port network" is relatively easy and inexpensive and will double the BW of a cabinet configured as a single port network. -CL

It is not a rule of thumb actually, a PN has 241 time slots so 8 DS1's with E! connected is 240 of the 241 time slots, so you hav one time slot left.

If you are in a Call Center situation you coud have all 240 lines of the E! connected to a agent or in the Queue. So if you have more then 8 E1's you should have more then 1 PN.

Indeed a MCC Cabinet can be split in two PN's one PN resides above the fan's and the other one resides beneeth the fan's. This would mean two PN's with 241 time-slots.

Now there also is a Special Application MCC Cabinet available that has a PN in each carrier, which means 5x 241 time slots. (but you will not be able to go this way with a Critical Reliability G3r) Please let me know if the information that was provided is helpfull.

Cheers for the information. Just what I needed.

We do have 8 PN's split across 5 MCC cabs, the majority of our traffic comes in on 2 PN's with 8 DS1's each...hence we're sweating these while the others are (relatively) idle.

The other PN's have 4, 5 or 6 DS1's in with lower volume campaigns running. We're not seeing any blockages yet but I'm worried for the future so I think it's time to spread the high volume trunks across the PN's.

Like you say it is wise to spread these DS1's arround the system, but be aware it is also wise to spread your call center agents across the PN's then.

And if there is any CVIS connected to the system with multiple E1's pread these arround as well.

This is helpfull from a traffic point of view, but also it spreads your risk in case of a carrier, cabinet or power supply failure Please let me know if the information that was provided is helpfull.
